Terrible 2s?

Ooooh boy. My easy-going, good-natured little boy is really finding his voice. The babysitter at our moms group told me a few weeks ago, "Any bad habits Trey seems to have picked up -- they're not from me. Blame them on the kids that are a year older than him."

I'm sure part of it is because Trey can't QUITE communicate what he wants to say, but really most of it is... his sinful nature!! Stubbornness, selfishness, impatience, disobedience....you can see it all in a one-year-old.

The last couple of days, we've been spending a lot of time with our friends A and J, 3 year-old twins. It's funny, because Trey thinks he's just like them and able to do whatever they do. It's really cute -- there's all sorts of sibling rivalry signs between them. One minute they are shouting "No!" and pulling toys away from each other (including my not-so-innocent little 13 1/2 month old), and the next minute, they're giving each other kisses and hugs.

An interaction at dinner tonight:

A leans in toward Trey.
Trey tries to swat A in the face.
A pulls back, but then leans in again.
Trey screams and tries to swat her again.
Aunt C: "A, he probably doesn't like it when you do that."
Me: "Trey, that is not ok. You need to say sorry to A."
Trey: "Gai..." (That's how he says sorry -- hilarious)
A: "That's ok, Baby Trey."

And all is well again...until later, when Trey doesn't want A and J looking/touching the book that Aunt C is reading to him.

Trey, you're in for a rude awakening. In about six weeks, you're going to have a real sibling...one that doesn't go home after dinner.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it." -- Proverbs 22:6

Lord, show me how to pray for Trey (and baby #2). Help me raise Him Your way, and may Your will be done in his life.
